Private Toll Lanes Unfair to Hard Pressed Drivers

Private Toll Roads Would Put Extra Pressure on Hard Pressed Drivers

A proposal by the Government to allow private companies to charge drivers for using extra lanes has been slammed by Warley MP and ex Transport Minister, John Spellar.

John Spellar said:-

“This is another rip off for motorists and the Haulage Industry.  We have already seen the excessive charges on the M6 toll road.  I pioneered hard shoulder running on the M42 in order to provide extra capacity on a major bottleneck.  The Transport Department are now rolling this out on other motorways.  The billions of tax paid by motorists should be used on boosting this programme not funding another way to tax hard pressed drivers.”
