Wired for Success

John Spellar, Former National Officer for the Electricians Union, Supports Launch of Groundbreaking Female Electrician Vocational Training Initiative

Last week the Electrical Contractors’ Association launched the “Wired for Success” Scheme which aims to help increase the number of women training to work in the Electrical Contracting Industry, an industry where less than 1% of qualified operatives are women.

The ECA hopes that this initiative will promote an increase in the number of women entering the industry, especially given the shortage of qualified electricians and the ageing workforce.

Commenting on the issue, John Spellar MP for Warley, said:-

“It is great to see the ECA identifying this problem and taking positive steps to help increase the number of women working in Electrical Contracting Industry. I hope this initiative is rolled out across the country.

“At a time when more women are out of work since 1988 it is important that schemes like this receive the support they deserve.”
